  • If you have acquired the Foreign Nationality on or after 01-Jun-2010 then you need to pay Five Thousand Indian Rupees (5000 INR).
  • If you have acquired the Foreign Nationality before 01-Jun-2010 then you need to pay Five Hundred Indian Rupees (500 INR).

No, Police Verification is not required for Surrender Certificate.

Yes, expired passports too can be presented for surrendering. Surrender will not be allowed for Impounded, Revoked, Suspended, and Cancelled (against Re-issue) passports.

Do you need to personally visit the Passport Office after online application?
Yes, it is mandatory to visit the passport office to surrender the Indian passport at the closest PSK and collect the Surrender Certificate as per instructions received at the PSK.

Note: In case any penalty or additional fee is due on the passport application, the corresponding passport cannot be surrendered using the new application until the respective payment is made.

As per regulations of the Government of India, it is a mandatory requirement that all foreign nationals (excluding overseas citizens of India) visiting India on a long term visa (more than 180 days) register themselves with a Registration Officer after arrival in India. Individuals who fail to register within the specified time period will be charged a late fee.

 

As of 2018, the FRRO registration can be applied online under the e-FRRO scheme. Foreign nationals are now no longer required to appear in-person at the FRRO/FRO office, unless specifically required to do so.

Overseas Citizen of India

Who is eligible to apply for Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI)?

  • A person who is a citizen of another country, but was a citizen of India at the time of, or at any time after, the commencement of the constitution; or
  • A person who is a citizen of another country, but was eligible to become a citizen of India at the time of the commencement of the constitution; or
  • A person who is a citizen of another country, but belonged to a territory that become part of India after the 15th day of August, 1947; or
  • A person who is a child or a grand-child or a great grand-child of such a citizen, or
  • A person who is minor child of a person mentioned in clause (a); or
  • A person who is a minor child, and whose both parents are citizen of India or one of parents is a citizen of India; or
  • Spouse of foreign origin of a citizen of India or spouse of foreign origin of an overseas citizen of India card holder registered under section 7 A, Citizenship Act, 1955 and whose marriage has been registered and subsisted for a continuous period of not less than two years.

Who is not eligible for Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI)?

  • A person who is a Citizen of Pakistan and Bangladesh.
  • A person whose parents/Grandparents/Great Grandparents is or had been a citizen of Pakistan, Bangladesh or such other country.
  • Spouse of foreign origin of a citizen of India or spouse of foreign origin of an overseas citizen of India card holder registered under section 7 A, Citizenship Act, 1955 and whose marriage has been registered and subsisted for a continuous period of less than two years.

Indian CDC

 

The Indian Continuous Discharge Certificate or C.D.C. as it is popularly referred has been a scourge for many aspiring seafarers. We at Travco Holidays Pvt. Ltd. assist the seafarers in obtaining their Indian CDC without any hassle at a very reasonable cost.

 

Why is Indian CDC required?

  • All seafarers (Indian nationals) will no longer be able to fly out of the country to join ships without valid STCW training and an Indian CDC. Hence it is mandatory for every seafarer to hold one to make it possible to join duty onboard.
  • As per the Directorate General of Shipping ‘s(DGS) new rule, the seafarer’s Indian CDC number which is entered in the DGS website page e-Governance is accessible to the immigration officers at all airports in India.

Who is eligible for an Indian CDC?

  • Crew registered via recruiting and placement service supplier must hold Directorate General (DG) approved STCW 2010 and INDOS number can apply for an Indian Seaman’s Book.
  • Crew must have completed minimum qualification of SSC (10TH STD) and should be medically fit.

When can an Indian CDC application be refused?

  • Crew who submit certificates for training completed on board are not recognized by DGS.
  • Incorrect information updated on the profile maintained by DGS.
  • Data on STCW Certificates, 10th Standard mark sheet and medicals do not match the Indian Passport.

Documents required for obtaining an Indian CDC:

 

The first step in this process is for you to obtain an Indian National Database of Seafarers (INDOS) number, which you will receive once you get the following STCW Certificates in India from a DGS-Approved Maritime Training Institute. Following that, the below documents will be required to obtain an Indian CDC.

  • Indian Passport.
  • Indian National Database of Seafarers (INDOS) number.
  • STCW Certificates issued by a DGS-approved Maritime Training Institute in India (proficiency in Elementary First Aid (EFA), Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting (FPFF), Personal Survival Techniques (PST), Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities (PSSR), Security Training for Seafarers with Designated Security Duties (STSDSD).
  • A valid ILO Medical and Annexure IV medical fitness certificate.
  • SSC (10th Standard) mark sheet.
  • Photograph as per specification of DGS.

4. Copy of an extract of the service record of the applicant (only in respect of Government servants) or the Pay Pension Order (in respect of retired Government Servants), duly attested/certified by the officer/in-charge of the Administration of the concerned Ministry/Department of the applicant.
5. Aadhaar Card/E-Aadhaar.
6. Election Photo Identity Card (EPIC) issued by the Election Commission of India.
7. PAN Card issued by the Income Tax Department.
8. Driving License issued by the Transport Department of concerned state Government.
9. A declaration given by the Head of the Orphanage/Child Care Home on the official letterhead of the organization confirming the DOB of the applicant.
Note:

Documents mentioned in points 4 to 8 are acceptable as proof of Date of Birth only if they have the precise Date of Birth of the applicant.

All persons who have been staying abroad for more than three years (the period of three years could be either in one stretch or broken) and their spouses
  • Passport copy (first two and last two pages, including ECR/Non-ECR page and the page of observation (if any), made by Passport Issuing Authority)
  • For spouses certificate signifying relation
    i)An attested copy of marriage certificate issued by Registrar of Marriage

    ii) Spouse name should be endorsed on each other’s passport
  • Applicant has to submit a written statement detailing all the dates of exit and entry into India and produce the passport for verification. (Format: Sl. No, Date of Exit. Port of Exit, Page Number of passport containing the stamp, similarly details of corresponding entry. The last column should mention number of days spent outside India. This should be more than three years (1095 days).
Seamen who are in possession of Continuous Discharge Certificate (CDC), or Sea Cadets and Deck Cadets

 

  • Who have passed the final examination of three years B.Sc. Nautical Sciences courses at T.S. Chanakya, Mumbai and
  • Who have undergone three months pre-sea training at any of the Government approved training institutes, such as T.S. Chanakya, T.S. Rehman, T.S. Jawahar, MTI (SCI) and NIPM, CHENNAI, after production of identity cards issued by the Shipping Master at Mumbai/ Kolkata/ Chennai
Continuous Discharge Certificate
Persons holding Permanent Immigration Visa, such as the visas of UK, USA and Australia. Copy of Immigration Visas, or the Permanent Resident card of the country of stay

Note:

  • Applicants are required to submit proof of address only for the present address, irrespective of the date from which they have been residing at the given address. However, he/she is required to mention all the places of stay during the previous one year (from the date of application filling) in the Passport application form.
  • Furnishing of Aadhaar card will expedite processing of passport applications.
  • Aadhaar letter/card or the e-Aadhaar (an electronically generated letter from the website of UIDAI), as the case may be, will be accepted as Proof of Address (POA) and Proof of Photo-Identity (POI) for availing passport related services. Acceptance of Aadhaar as PoA and PoI would be subject to successful validation by the Aadhaar database.
  • (For Minor): For minor applicants, present address proof document in the name of parent(s) can be submitted.
  • (For Document No. 7): Only public limited companies can give address proof on company letterhead along with a seal. Computerized print-outs shall not be entertained.
  • Documents containing addresses out of the 12 documents listed under Tatkaal application, could also be accepted as proof of residence if such documents have the same present residential address as given by the applicant in the Passport Application Form.

Note:

If the applicant does not have Non-ECR status then All such ECR passport holders need to obtain Emigration Clearance Certificate from the Protector-General of Emigrants, Ministry of Overseas India Affairs.
